Jodan and I made it out on the lake this morning. She slept in until 5AM so we made it to my first spot by 6AM. We were both moving slowly. LOL The first area was a large, rounded point on the main lake. I made two passes on the drop off and only landed one nice walleye which was about 21 inches. I wasn’t marking much so we moved to a large flat. I was not marking fish on the flat where I found them the other day, so we headed back to the first area. This time I found fish, but they had moved off of the drop off side of the point to middle of the point in 28 to 30 feet of water. We proceeded to land 4 more walleye with 2 nice keepers. I was going to say I did not get to catch a fish today, but one of the walleye swam across my other line and we ended up with a mess. We got the walleye landed, but I had to cut the line on the other rod. As I was hand reeling in the line a white bass hammered the bait. That was different! So, I did get to land a fish today. I was using 2 Flicker Minnows, one in purple and the other was the sexy shad pattern. The walleye liked them both.

The lake surface temp was about 84-85 degrees this morning on the main lake. The water level is falling slowly and sits at 560.53 ft msl. There is a thermocline formed around 30 feet deep. The water is clear on the main lake and slightly stained in the creeks. We both had fun heckling each other continuously.

Hummingbird Hideaway Resort has a few cabins available in August. Give us a call for details if you are looking for a great place for a family vacation or just a quiet get away on the lake. Call at 870-492-5113. Fishing is good this time of year for most species. Along with catching striped bass, the large mouth & spotted bass are still sporadically surfacing back in the creeks and coves. The crappie are biting and the walleye bite is good.
