I have been on an every other day fishing regiment. Work keeps interfering with my fun! I was out on the water this early morning and looked at a few flats to see if the stripers had moved in. They did not, at least I could not find them. I headed to a main lake bluff wall point where I had fished the other day. I didn’t get there until 4:30, but still set out my green light. I drew in a lot of bait and had a few striped bass come through under the bait at about 50 feet. I could not get them to bite anything. I did get one nice 20 inch walleye to hammer the bait on a slow reel up through the bait. Once it got light out, I stayed in the same area since I knew there were striped bass around. A large school of aggressive fish came under me. I got to land 2 really fat striped bass. Both hit the white trash Tater Shad on the fall. When I would see the fish coming through at 40 – 50 feet down I would drop my bait down to that level. I was sitting in 120 feet of water. A fish would stop and start coming up to the bait I slowed down the fall and the fish would attack. The biggest one at 32 inches long gave a great battle. He just wanted to go deeper and deeper, multiple times. It was fun. I was starting to draw a crowd, so I packed up and headed back to the resort. Work starts early for me this time of year.
The lake surface temp was about 83 degrees this morning on the main lake. The water level is fairly stable and sits at 560.55 ft msl. There is a thermocline formed around 25 feet deep. The water is clear on the main lake and slightly stained in the creeks.
